426 Hemi Help
All,....
Granpa is a newbie here and looking to get back into the "old school"gear-head hobby.
After raising 5 kids and married for 30 years, I'm about to reitire and nothing would please more, as to have an ole 426 in my garage in the rebuild stage. I've wanted one since I was a kid.
Can anyone stear me to some websites or any U.S. shops that would have a 426 long block. Not sure what I'll put this into just yet, but I gotta start somewhere and it appears an ole hemi is hard to come by.
Any help would be appreciated,... Grandson is going to learn ole school and know when Granpa is comin down the street. He'll go to school everyday,... if I ride him!!

Mopar Performance has 426 Hemi crate engines available, but they are over $10,000. You can fnd them at the Mopar Nationals and the Chrysler Classics and most big Mopar shows and swap meets. The Mopar Collectors Guide is another great source.
Chances are pretty slim that you will find a complete original that needs nothing any cheaper than that, though. And the issue becomes with an original, how do you determine what, if anything, it needs? You will have to do some disassembly, and unless you are a competent engine builder, you will have to pay someone to evaluate it for you. You will no doubt be looking at an investment of 10K or more no matter what direction you decide to proceed in.
Yep, pretty much any good running stock type 426 Hemi will cost that much or to make a non-running or poor running one right. There are still a few rare gems out there to be had, but the chances of finding and attaining them are slim.

The 426 Hemi came out in 1966 and ended after 1971.
