Default a/c removal

I know removing the a/c and heater takes a good amount of weight away but ive also heard it gives a little bit of hp. I would like to know the length of the new belt that i need when i get rid of the a/c, how easy it is to take out and also how to get to the heater core to take that out. Thanx[8D]

If you live in a state that gets cold I'd leave the heater core in. Heat is nice is the cold months.

I'm not sure of the belt size though. It's going to take a couple of hours to remove everything related to the A/C because some components are pretty tough to get to.

I think you can just get the belt for a car without ac. I might be wrong but I think so.

Actually you can neons are one of the few vehicles you can just get the belt for one without ac. If your looking to remove weight why not get rid of the power steering while your at it and few up a couple more ponys.

if you remove the power steering to do it right you have to go get the set up from a neon without ps, otherwise the steering will be harder than a car without ps.

Getting to the AC evaporator and heater core is a PITA. Essentially have to remove the whole dash. May want to leave them until you have additional reasons to yank much of the dash.

Keeping the heater probably is a good idea anyway if you're going to use it for year-round street driving. A running heater doesn't use near the hp as a running AC. A car with no heater could be much tougher to sell when you're ready to move to something else.

Also, the heater can get you out of a bind with an overheating engine. The Neon runs with only about 1.75 gallons of coolant. I'm guessing you'll reduce this by 7% or more by pulling the heater core. This coolant and the heat exchange capacity of the core/blower are on reserve to the cooling system should something ever prevent it from keeping up with the heat load.

Its really not that bad project neon has been running this way for over a month. Just about anyone can handle the little bit of extra muscle it take to drive it. But yeah your right to do it right you have to get a manual rack.

No. You don't need a manual rack. That's a misnomer. It's not necessary. Just loop the lines or do what I'm going to do. Remove the lines from the rack and plug the holes in the rack with some brass fittings. You can even use brake line and bend it so it loops put a T on it and put a fill tube so you can put a little fluid in it so things don't get too stiff.

I've got the PS off but I haven't done anything with the lines yet.
