Need some help on parts/suggestions, new to neons!
Hey guys, what's up?1 I'm not new to cars(I'm used to dealing with Hyundais) I'm just new to neon tuning, and I used to go to neons.org but it seems their forums aren't open anymore....or something...whatever.
anyways, my sister just gave her '94 white neon over to my little brother who just got his license. He wants to do a few things to it and I want to help him out. Here's what I got.
It's a white '94 plymouth/dodge neon automatic. It has a new transmission, timing belt, brakes and suspension work, so it should be a great little car for him for a couple of years. Here's some ideas I had.
1: I think it has a crack somewhere in the exhaust manifold, because it ticks a little when you rev it. So instead of replacing it, I was just going to go for a header. What do you think? Suggestions on a header?
2: The paint has that annoying neon trait of peeling off. Is there an outstanding Dodge recall pertaining to this, so I can get it fixed? Or is it just something that people deal with? I can sand it down and respray no problem(there's no rust, just the paint is peeling on the roof)
3: I can't remember if it's the DOHC or SOHC,( I think dual) but I can't see an "engine size" anywhere. Like for example my Accent has right on the engine "1.6L DOHC 16V" written on it. Does the neon have a 2.0 or 1.6 or what? Also what is the base horsepower?
Thanks!

As for the header there are a few sites to get one

and

as for the engine i believe on a '94 its a 2.0 I have a '99 with an atx and it has a header, exhaust and an intake. My current plans are a rear spoiler, side skirts, and a fiberglass hood and some good rims. And I think base horsepower is around 114 im not quite sure though.

Technically there is no 1994 Neon. It is still considered a 95. but I have heard of a few cases where there were a few very rare 1994 Neons. Are you positive it's a 94?
I'm not trying to be a dick but I just want to make sure.
Anyway, that ticking sound you hear is most likely the rockers, part of the valvetrain. Usually due to lack of lubrication. Almost all Neons have it and if it's not too bad it's considered normal. But headers are a pretty good start for mods.
There used to be a recall on the paint, but I believe, and don't quote me on this because I am not sure, that it is over now. So, no, the dealer will not pay for it.
What you've got is a 2.0 liter car. Can't help you on whether or not it's a SOHC or a DOHC. I don't have the car in front of me.
If it's a DOHC HP rating is 150, if it's a SOHC HP rating is 132. If it's a DOHC with an ATX I believe the torque is going to be 133 same as the SOHC. An MTX's torque rating is 130 I believe.
Welcome to DF.
Oh, and glad to see another ATX person. If you want to know how to make your automatic faster lemme know.

I don't think there was any dohc's till real late 95 but I could be wrong. Seen as you have a "94" which are usually just refered to as 95's I would say you probably just have a sohc no big deal the better motor I think. If you want a header and don't want to have to modify the exhaust I would go for the pacesetter. Its the best bang for the buck when it comes to exhaust. If you really want to make a difference get a crane #12 camshaft it probably the #1 best modifiction for SOHC neons.
Actually guys, my bad. It is a '97 Plymouth Neon Automatic 2.0L 16V SOHC.
My plans are intake first, then exhaust and header(probably both at the same time) Someone posted that the pacesetter header was best, if I was to order that with the flowmaster exhaust....whattya think? probably Ordering both from modern performance BTW.(unless you want to direct me to a cheaper source!
)
thanks guys! This is really helping me and my little brother out(the one who actually has the car!)
