The SOHC are still "basically" the same, and even the DOHC arent that different...as far as parts, I'll let someone like spudsterier or das chime in since they'll know more specifics for your 1st Gen...

 

this might sound stupid but, how do i know if i have a SOHC or a DOHC?

 

Simplest way is to pop the hood and look at your valve cover, should say "SOHC" or "DOHC"...or you can look to the left side of the cylinder head and if there are two cam gears then its a DOHC, and if theres only one then its a SOHC. I think for 1st Gens though, the only Neons that got the DOHC were R/T's...but I could be mistaken...
