Stupid question
I just bought new wires and plugs for my 1st gen. I have never changed the plugs and when I took a quick look at it it looked like I had to take the valve cover off to change the plugs. Again I only looked quick as it was getting dark, but is there an easier way? Also does anyone have any experience with bosh +4 plugs and wires?
I looked down the tube and I can't see the outside of the spark plug is and the socket will not fit, I know I have the righ size socket cause I fit it to the new plugs. The only way I can see is that the interior metal tube pulls out.
You do not have to pull the tubes out or remove the VC. The size socket you will need is 5/8" hopefully the size of the new plugs are the same. You will need a 6"-12" extention.
Also, it's generally not a good idea to use the Bosch +4 Plats. They aren't that good. They'll foul out pretty soon after you put them in. Stick with NGK spark plugs.

You are using the wrong socket. Go to Sears and buy a Craftsman 5/8" socket and a 6"-12" extention.

You sure youa re looking int he correct spot? And are you positive you don't have a build-up of oil in the tube which is why you can't see it?
Do you have a digital camera? If so, go out and take pics then email them to me I wanna see.

I don't have it with me but I will when I do the job tommarow, but looking down the tube its clean and i see shiny metal where the "nut" part of the plug is. The wire is a long black rubber tube that goes down into a silver metal color tube that goes down to the plug. It is posible that the metal tube belongs in the old wires? I do have a 1st gen, could that be the difference?
