How many miles do you have on your neons
My 98 SOHC Neon has 253,000 Miles on the car & original (never rebuilt) engine and the engine see's 7,000 Rpm everytime I drive it. I have a DOHC pcm in the car which allows me to hit 7,000 Rpm just for the record
The car has made even people who hate Neon's respect it just for how hard I beat it and what it takes. These 2.0 SOHC really have to be starved of oil and be beaten from a cold start up to die. I've had 3 Neons and they're all unstoppable!.

My '98 DOHC has 163,500 miles. Gas milage for the last 885 miles was a little over 36 MPG. Other than occasional adds of R134A and routine maintenance, it has been better than Honda or Toyota reliable!
Cylinder 4 is a bit low on compression (150 PSI vice 180 PSI in the others) and burns about a quart of oil every 1200-1500 miles. But I finished another season of autocrossing and (with an almost stock Neon) got up to 94 (out of 100) points at one event. And that was against Miatas, STIs, Shelby Cobras, the new BRZ/FRS.
My guess is, the person who replaced the head gasket at 95K miles didn't clean cylinder #4 correctly.
I can't complain with a $3600 dollar used car!

I bought an '01 SE about a month ago, 144,9xx. I'm at 145,8xx right now, and just getting started. Just did plugs and wires, I have an airfilter, but to my surprise, I opened it up and there was a K&N sitting there! Buttttt I'm going to put a CAI on it soon enough anyway.
