Prestone Max life
I just change the antifreeze in my 98 neon. I used the orange preston max life. I have since been told that it will eat my gaskets. Does anyone have a car that they are using the orange antifreeze in? Afterwards I read the back of the bottle and it is recomended for 2001 and newer aluminum radiators in Chrysler cars. I would like to know if I should change it out or if it OK.
Casper,
Was the antifreeze that you replaced green, or orange? I beleive Chrysler began using the Mopar Long Life AF in the neon in early 00.
It probably won't really hurt the system bad if you mix it, we accidently mixed green in my wife's 00 and i diddn't change it for about 20k.
No big deal. When in doubt, call the dealer first, they are usualy really understanding and will help you out.

when i checked my anti freeze for the first time it was really low. i bought the green one. and filled it up a little. i brought it to get checked and the guy noticed cuz it was brown colored. he wanted to flush the hole system out for 60 $. i was supposed to put the orange one it but it still is running fine as of now. Then again i didnt put alout in. He said sumthing about a gasket but i thought he was just tryin to get money out of me. HOe do i drain it anyway? Can i pull the hose off the bottem and let it drain out?
From what I was told the orange when it came out there was a lot of problems with it eating gaskets. To drain the radiatot there is a plug in the radiator, just open it and the fill cap and it will drain.
Casper,
In the late 90's when GM first came out with Dex Cool (long life AF) they had a major problem with the cooliant eating intake gaskets.
Long life cooliant is a better mixture than the regular green, the answer is not to leave it in the engine for 100k.
I don't care what it's called, they say it will last 100k so that people think there car is mantinance free when they buy it.
That's just not true.
I did a drain and fill on my 01 at 50k, the colliant looked clean and had no sludge.
We follow this procedure at the shop every day. As long as you do not leave ANY kind of antifreeze in your engine for 100,000 miles, everything will be just fine.
I would replace the colliant with what came in the vehicle, it will help your warranty problems (if you'r still covered) and will ad to the value of the vehicle
