Default New Neon Alarm

For those of you who happen to have a stock alarm system on their neon's (preferably those with new 2nd generation) do you/have you ever had problems with it? When I first got the car and put the keys to the run position (where all the indicator lights flash ) I noticed a red dot in the upper right hand corner blink for a moment and then turn off. According to the specifics of my car, it does in fact have an alarm system. Then the other day I finally received the owner's manual and it said that when you use the keyless entry to lock your car, a red light should flash repededly on the dash for approx. 16 seconds. Then it says that it will start to flash more slowly to indicate that the alarm is activated. After I saw this I went out to my car and noticed that there was no red light flashing? Am I doing something wrong, or what?

Your alarm might be in valet mode. Read the manual again and see how to take it out of valet mode.

No it the new neons, you have to activate the alarm. The dealer has to turn it on. There was a post in the SRT-4 section on the alarms. I can't figure out how to link it here, but the name of the post was "SRT-4 alarm activated?". Just search for that name on here and you will fing the post.

Thanks to Big Red Jim from srtforums.com for this one. Hopefully this might help some of you who either didn't know what to do or that you ever COULD do this. Apparently though, this will work on all 03+ Neon's with keyless entry. Just bring these instructions to your dealer and you're good ta' go
Connect DB3 to car located inside the car near hood release up and to right 3 inches. It is a white serial port.

Put DBR3 into to "Stand Alone 98-04"

Once in "stand alone 98-04" go to "security"

Once in "security" go to VTSS

Once in "VTSS" go to "misc"

Once in "misc" go to "configure"

Once there change "RKE" to "VTA"

After you are done the lock button will turn on the alarm showing a round red light on the instrument cluster above gas gauge for exactly 17 seconds after that the red light will go in to a slow blink.

Went to the dealership this morning at 10 am. Within 30 seconds they had the alarm actiavted, so I can confirm that these instructions will work. The only thing they really had trouble with was figuring out whether or not to change it to RKE or VTA. Just remember to change to RKE and you'll have your passive alarm up and running. Thanks for everyone's help, really appreciate it.[sm=smiley20.gif]

Nope, not a dime. If they try to charge any of you to do it tell them to **** off. Every thread I've ever read pretty much says the same thing. If they try to charge you, they're trying to scam you.
