i droped my friend off at his house right. i get home grab some food and go to leave and my car is dead . there wasnt even enuff power to lock the doors twice. it didnt turn over or anything. I jumped it and it started right up. i drove around for an hour hopin it would re charge. the battery light stayed on the hole time. when i turned my light on inside the car it was flickering alittle bit. i drove home and shut it off. i tried starting it right back up and it wouldnt even turn over. right now the battery is out charging over night. any help please. i dont no if its the alternator or the battery is shot.

 

Most likely the alternator if its not recharging.

i thought the alternator might be going b/c its been making a squeeking noise kinda. and its not the fan belt.

 

Yeah its gotta be the alternator, the car will run for a while, the engine its self does not draw that much power, but if the battery light is on its either the battery or the alternator. Take a meter and read the voltage coming off the aternator, it should be around 14 volts, if its not, its the alternator.

 

i got a new battery. it was checked out at pep boys and its was bad. I got a new battery at autozone and they check my alternator. its was fine. When i checked for codes it flashed 5 times then another 5 times. that mean its good right. But befor when i had the bad battery in when i cheacked for codes it said FUSE and my gauges whent up and down 3 times then went back to normal. I tried it after i had the new battery in and it was fine.

 

My 01 did the same thing, But it wasn't the alternator.
It acctually turned out to be a shifted plate in the battery.

One thing will tell you for sure, put a new battery in the car, if the cahrging light goes off, then you solved your problem, if not, you need an alternator!

My battery did the same thing when I first got my neon. You can not buy a new vehicle anymore with a decent battery. They are only good for like a year. I ended up getting a Di Hard at Sears. It has been fine since then. I have it for 2.5 years.

 

Yeah if the plates short it will do the same thing. I am confused though did you have the battery and alternator tested before of after the problem started? If it was before have them tested again.

 

i tookt he battery out got it tested, it was bad. got new battery put new one in and ran fine. went to get alternator tested just in case. to make sure my car was running off just the battery and no alternator. ran the test and it was fine. im good to go now. im afraid to use my system now. does it matter when im driving if i use it. or should i get a capasitor. the kid i was cellin it to turned it down. (@$$hole) lol .
