Hi I'm new to here, but i own a 97 sohc neon with 75k on it... The lst person who had it didn't take good care of it so now it's my turn to baby it.

Eventually i want to convert it to an mtx but I'm saving that till I'm done with college and getting the rest of the car in decent working order.

The question(s) I have today is...
1)When I first start my car in the morning, it is extremly loud starting up and ticks until I back up and start moving foward for a bit.

2)It continues to tick and idle loudly and run loudly full time.

3) When I first take off and it switches gears for the first time, my car shudders extremly bad, the whole car shakes, cds skip etc. etc. kinda feels like gears stripping but it only does it on take off, afterwards It smoothely changes gears. It used to be so that if I took off slow enough it wouldnt do it, but now it seems like no matter what.

people have told me teeth were broke and some boot on the front axle was messed up...I don't know anything about the boot, but if the teeth were broke wouldnt it constantly have trouble changing gears smoothly.

I know most of the heavy vibration while driving and stalling is from need of new motor mounts am I correct?
butcould it have anything to do with the plugs and ignition wires(which I plan to change soon)

Sorry if this is a long post, I want to turn this neon into something spectacular as a project car as I'm going through automotive mechanics training which will start in march hopefully, and want to get it running good before I start modding everything and transmission conversion.
