Its a lot easier, I can rev to 3000 RPM and drop the clutch. Its about the equivalent of putting your car in neutral and dropping it into drive, by the way don't do that, except a lot safer.

yeh i would never neutral bomb it.... with my luck it would blow apart my whole tranny and i wouldn't have a car to drive... lol
with a manual the only thing that would really get damaged is like the clutch plate...so its kinda safer/less expensive if you mess some thing up

when i had my 03 i did that once and will never do it again. i put the parking brake on. put it in neutral. reved it up all the way then put it in drive. the tires went nuts. exactly what i wanted, but i did it over tar. so the whole wheel wall and side of the car got covered in tar that i couldn't get off. sucks for the dealer when we returned the lease, but the neutral slam works.

There are adjustments, I would start with new drums and pads though.

Well on almost any front wheel drive car the rear brake will actually provide around 30% of the total braking so ignoring poor performance in the rear will provide several problems. These will include low pedal and abnormally long braking. Also with ineffective rear you can cause front brake problems such as overheating and excessive wear. If you let rears go too longe you can have failure and thus loss of brake fluid. No fluid, No stop!

Rears are essential. I am not certain about Neons as I have not looked but a lot of cars have a an adjustment point where the cables from each side come together and also at the e-brake handle. Make sure you adjust brakes to the drums allowing some drag. Apply the brakes several times firmly and the readjust to account for any centering of shoes to the drum that may have occured.

Double check for any adjustment points for the e-brake cable and adjust so that handle does not reach the top but rather 1/2 to 3/4 up when pulled. E-brakes are actually parking brakes and not designed to really stop the car but actually to hold a stopped car. So it should hold on a hill just fine. A lot will move under engine power as I have confirmed on several occasions drive customer cars with problems. So the parking brake may help but some sort of netral drop or may holding the converter at stall with brakes appied while the throttle is stalled. Anyway the best to all. Burnouts are fun though and if you must more frequently melt rubber than I do suggest learing to drive a STICK and drop a performance clutch and have fun. Still hard on trans and halfshafts.
