Default Oil Light turns on and off

Hello everyone, I was wondering if someone could help me out. I have a 2004 Dodge Neon Sxt with 34,480 miles. Today the oil light just starts to turn on and off unknown why. I parked it for about 30 mins and checked the oil level, the oil stick read good nearly at max. I recently changed the oil at 33,200. I was told that the oil pumps to the neon were excellent and do not normaly fail. I have no other ideasto what could be causeing this. I would really appreciateany other ideas ofwhat it could be and how to solve the issue. Thank you all very much.

Oil pressure sensor would be a good place to start. If thats what it is called not 100% but that is where i would start.

Thanks SXTJunk. Would you happen to know if you could get this part at Autozone and PEPBOYS or is this a Dealer only part. If you do know the answer or if anyone else knows what would be the price to this sensor ? Please advise Thanks.

Thanks again for your help SXTJunk. Would you also happen to know the location of the sensor on the block? I went to Autozone and asked if they carried that sensor. The associate looked it up and informed me that they do not carry it at all. BUMMER ha ha.I did not have that much time to look at other stores because I needed to work. Thanks again.

Ya we dont carry them either. looks to be on the back of the block right above the tranny. Not to hard to get your hand up in there. I can get the sensor for like 30 bucks up the street at bond auto. The wires coming out of the connector are green i think. it also says you need to Use a switch removal socket 1" - 1 1/16 and a stubby ratchet and to use a yellow(gas and oil proof) teflon tape on the threds. Good luck hope that helps.

I got the sensor at the Dodge dealer for around $22 bucks. I put the sensor on and still the light turns on. I do not hear any knocking in the motor and the oil level is fine. I think maybe the connector might be bad. My friend said that sometimes when the engine gets to hot it causes the connectors to harden. He also mentioned that the wirescan get hard. Here in South Texas the tempature reaches 98with a heat index of 105easly. Maybe also if I change the oil from 10w-30 to 10w-40 I do not know. Thanks SXTJunk foryour advice. Ifyouhave anything else for me please let me know or if any one else has some advice I can surely useit. Thanks again SXTJunkie.

Hope you can figure it out and it doesn’t turn out to be an electrical gremlin. I have one in my car that I have been trying to find for about 2 weeks now damn thing keeps eluding me.
Also you could check the sending unit or the pickup tube might be clogged. So your oil level would check out but your engine would be getting very little. I hope it’s something stupid and easy to fix.
