can they be swapped? ive tried to look up the past threads but to no avail. i have an05 dodge neon auto, and want to know if i can swap a manual out of a 98.

 

It will bolt up, but you will need to make some adjustments. As your neon is an automatic, you will need the clutch pedal assembly, clutch cable ( you will have to drill a hole in your fire wall to use), a 5speed shifter and the cables, the brackets securing the shifter cables to the 5speed mtx, a 2G trans mount, reverse plug sensor pigtail wiring, a clutch, and a 2G 5speed pcm. You will have to inquire on what years your 05 can use. I have some 2G shifter boots if you need one. The center consol for 2G neons is the same for auto and 5 speeds. You will not need the bobble strut on the 1G as the 2G neons do not use them. You could throw one in there for the heck of it

 

im gonna buy a 98 neon auto and that was gonna be the decision point breaker of buying it, if it could swap trannys or not. so i just have to get those 2g parts and it will work?

 

You have a 05 with an atx, and want to swap over a 5sp transmission off a 98 neon. Is this correct?

 

You'll also need to drill holes in the firewall if you go with a 1st Gen or MY2000 transmission since they use a cable clutch setup.

Check to make the clutch pedal assembly from a 1G will be compatible with 2G neon. I'd recommend a new clutch cable, new clutch, and a new reverse plug sensor.
