What's the rpm at 70 mph for a 2001 Neon?
Dude, i was also wondering why i have this same problem. I have a 2001 SE and at 60 i have 2500 and just like Mike, 70mph also makes 3000 rpm. i was just thinking it was only my car have problems but i guess it's a common thing. I worry that this higher rpm is making our cars less fuel effiecient than if it were to be 500 rpm less.
I WISH I HAD OD TOO!!!

ok mike if im off the throttle around 70 its around 2500.if im tapping the throttle to stay or gain speed then its around 2800-3000.and you do have OD cause in 3rd mine shoots up to like 4200.
Here is a good quote I got in another forum that explains a bit more about the 3 and 4 speed deal.
The 4 speed trans will have a circle around the D.The 3 speed trans will simply have a D (no circle). If your car does have the 3 speed ,a 6 cylinder is a 670,and a 4 cylinder is a 470.The Overdrive is the 42TE,also known as the 604.When i said a 3 speed is a 1 to 1 ratio, that is exactly correct for an old RWD car like a RoadRunner,Nova, etc. It is slightly different on a transaxle, even a 3 speed one,as Chrysler takes the 1 to 1 ratio of the rotating assembly, same as the old musclecars, and ramps it up slightly with a big gear and a smaller gear, much like bicycle sprockets. The smaller gear makes the pinion spin ever so sligthly better than the 1 to 1 ratio. You feel two shifts,1st to 2nd gear, then 2nd to 3rd gear, then on the 3 speed trans, you feel the clutch apply in the torque convertor, also known as TCC for Torque Convertor Clutch. This apply feels like a 3rd shift in some cars as the engine Rpm's can drop 200-500 Rpm's.As for the two different yet similar cars, tire diamter can dramatically alter a vehicles cruising Rpm's,better or worse. In addition, transfer gears are available with different tooth counts for varying final drive ratios depending on the weight and horsepower of the car.
