Idle drops to 500 on 2001 Dodge Neon
Sometimes at a stop sign, the idle will drop to 500 rpm which results in a rough idle cause it's too low. When it's idling at around 800 like it's supposed to be, it idles fine. If AC is on, it idles fine at the speed it's supposed to be. What is causing it to drop to 500 (with AC off) and how do I fix that?
BTW, no check engine lights, car runs like a top, fresh air filter.

i have a 2000 with the same computer as yours and about a year before i got codes for a bad cam position sensor this exact same thing happened to me frequently. i let it go until i got the code. advanced auto has em online, ships in a few days.
What is a cam position sensor?
I took it to the shop today to have it checked out. The guy did a diagnostic and couldn't find anything wrong. Computer didn't put out any errors. He did clean the air valve control switch. I'll have to drive it a bit to see if it helped.

same here,it rarely does it but its fine by me.as long as it doesnt stall then im fine.it does suck when it does that cause it rattles the hood + steering wheel
Well it's still doing it. Doesn't do it at every stop but when it does do it, I don't like it. When the idle does drop to 500, if I put it in neutral and rev up slightly, then put it back into Drive, it idles good back at 800. This works everytime the idle drops. Though I don't like to have to go through that process each time it happens. I'd rather get this issue fixed once and for all when I can figure out what the hell is causing it. Car runs like a top other than that one thing.
i think you need to take it to a good mechanic. i was thinkning that it could be these too. http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e6...tonSensor2.jpg

I already took it to a good mechanic as I explained earlier. If the computer is not indicating a problem, it comesdown to educated guess work and buying new parts in a sort of trial and error approach. Now I have to decide which parts I'm going to be changing out. None of them are that cheap.
