Change my backseat
Hi, in my Neon 96 (2 doors) i have fixed backseat. But this is not really convenient. I was wondering if it's possible to change it for a 60/40 split-folding rear bench seat. May be someone did this ? just let me know
u want one that folds down for the trunk so u have more cargo room ? it migt be possible because i believe the 2door and 4door seats are the same size and bolt type... you can take measurements and go to the junk yard to check.
I just took a look at the backseat of my 95 4-door, and it looks like what you are looking to do could be acomplished pretty easily with parts from home depot. The backseat is bolted down at the same point as the rear belt anchors with medal tabs, if you were to saw those tabs in half and attach a simple hinge at the same point on each tab the seat would be able to fold down and the top points at the deck could be replaced with any manner of latch. I'm new to neon's so i dont know of a bolt in, but this would only cost you a couple dollars and a couple hours, the area behind the seat is open to the trunk so there wouldn't be any concern there. Looks simple enough, let me know if you decide to give it a go.

P.S.
The easiest way to get an straight fold would probably be to use a straight-edge and a level to mark the tabs with the seat in the car, then use a dremmel or rotary cutting tool to cut the tabs. In leiu of the retainers on top you could most likely use something as simple as a plastic child lock for a kitchen cupboard, or you can get fancy and visit your local junk yard or log onto e-bay and get a keyed latch that could be fitted to the rear deck off a honda or toyota, i'd recommend one from an Accord if you wanted to go that route. It may not be bolt in, but it definately would be something you could appreciate when it was done, I might even do it myself as it never a bad thing to have a little more space.

Easier would be to just go get the fold down seat from the junkyard and put them in.
