Default Belt....

Hi again and last Post for now
i was wondering if there is a way to get rid of the Squeak/Chirp on my Car from the Belt. it makes the noise when its cold and idling. it sometimes makes it when its warm too. it never did this before since i got my Piston/Rings replaced in Decemeber 2004.
i tried spraying the area with Silcon. good idea?
years ago knowing nothing about cars i sprayed Belt Dressing on it and wow what a dumb mistake. lol...... i learned
Thanks !!

lol...You might just want to replace it all together. It might not be your belt either, it could be your power steering pump, I'm not sure if you know that it's exactly the belt so I'm just throwing ideas out there

I would replace the belt. By the way that is what belt dressing is for, if you don't want to use it replace the belts.

Being a second gen you should have 2 belts. The one that is squeaking should be the alternator belt which is manually tensioned. Mine is. Will get to it eventually. The outer serp has a tensioner that should do ok. Reach down and check the tesion on the belts. If you grap and pull on the outer belt you should see the tesioner move and feel the tension. The check the alternator belst tesion. It should be similar. If loose there is bolton the bottom and one in an arc on the top. Loosen a little pr ever to tighten the belt and lock into position. If any glazing or cracks are evedent then I would suggest replacement first. If after tightening it still makes noise. Replace belts. Check the pulleys for motion and noise then install the new belts.

i dunno why people go straight to spraying the belt to quiet them down when they start squeeling.. ive found that 99% of the time, its just because the belt doesnt have the proper tension. tighten the belt (or loosen if too tight, but most likely its loose) and then the squeeling should go away.

i didn't use spray yet cuz it stopped..... and i didn't check tensioner yet. but if im not mistaken they have an auto-tensioner don't they ?? if it starts acting up again i'll look at it.

nah, only the timing belt has an auto-tensioner (or simply: tensioner)
the alt and ps/ac belts must be manually adjusted for tension.

No it does not have an auto tensioner, you have to tighten it. I have had cars with brand new belts that were tightened correctly squeel.
