I saw a 2001 (?) with the intake dropped in right about where the battery would go normally, I suppose, but the battery was sitting right next to it. Didn't ask him too much about how he did it. A question I have about an intake is, notice how in each of these pictures, the intake wraps around to the back of the engine to where the filter is located....would it be possible to cut the intake pipe off just after it curves towards the back and rig up a cone filter sitting just to the right of the spark plugs or would that cause the elimination of a much-needed O2 sensor?
Thats not gonna matter, its posible but of no use. its still a hot air intake. An intake that draws air from anywhere that has cold air (fenderwell, below the motor, outside the hood) will give you the most HP.

And there's probably no easy way to make the intake go to one of those places on a 1st gen. considering how crowded the engine bays are, eh?

Looks like that intake you posted a link to is for 2000 and newer Neons. I looked at an Iceman intake for a 1st gen. and the picture looked like it wrapped around to the back of the engine (where the air filter is to begin with). I've just been trying to come up with a cheap do-it-yourself way of getting a better intake going if it's possible.

I can't remember what year it was, but the intake off of a caravan will work good as a CAI and you can pick it up for like $15 at the junk yard.

That's probably the "3.0 intake" I've heard about...I might have to look that up if it works just as good as a CAI.

I'm not so concerned about looks. Just going fast and having that edge. Chevy's little Cobalt is a quick car, I can't be having it beat me.

It might not give you all the performance of Iceman or AEM, but for $10-$15 compared to $200, its not bad.
