Motor mount replacement story
well i know for a fact either my mounts or inserts are shot cuz when i hit the gas the engine like bangs......i figured the easiest way was to replace the inserts cuz they tend to go. and only cuz they were under $50 i was going to do it. but i can't afford right now to spend like $80 a mount. but if you don't think they will do any thing then i won't bother wasteing the money. i thought the rubber comes out and then the new inserts go in... thus fixing my problem.
I have both the howell solid front and bobble strut. I am not 100% sure which one is my problem, if either, but they do vibtate quite a bit. My car is old, and I had a slight vibration before the solid mounts, but its annoying. My car hooks up like a champ. but vibrates annoyingly until almost 200rpm. Now given these are both the solid, not rubber, plasic, nothin but metal mounts, but they are noisey.
raydog- the inserts themselves should never go bad. theyre a pretty hard urethane.. its the rubber inside the mounts that always is the problem with the stock mounts.
by the way you make it sound, you had previously taken the rubber out from the mounts, and put the inserts in the mount? if so, id imagine thats a good bit of your problem right there! since the inserts are just meant to be inserted into the existing mount, without removing anything from the mount.
casper- what side mounts do you have? if one is your problem, id say its more due to the afx bobble. has it stripped out on you yet? i know a lot of people have had problems with the afx bobble stripping out on them. edit-also, how is your afx bobble preloaded? you can minimize the vibes by preloading the bobble differently.. not sure if ya know about that or not.
another problem with solid bobble struts, is they tend to destroy the rubber bushing thats in the bracket for the bobble. im in the process of replacing my bracket now with the '95 style (it doesnt have the bushing in there, its solid metal) which im hoping will fix my continuing wheelhop issue.

on my brothers cavalier he but inserts on the two side mounts and bought brand new racing mounts for the front. it works fine. so i guess it is different on a neon im not sure. i never done any thing to mine yet cuz i just got it like 3-4 months ago.
I did put in inserts in from PST and I bought all new mounts. The bobble struts and mounts are going to make the car vibrate. Especially because they are soild. You can feel everything from the motor becuase the motor isn't twisting or moving anymore. I have the same problem just from the one mount, but I knew that was going to happen and I can deal with it. If someone ever asks just say you got a set of cams lol.
yeah, i have the afx solid front, booger solid bobble, and deyeme "firm" filled sides.. and the vibes in mine actually arent all that bad.
but, i guess the lopey idle of the crane 18s actually helps that..
