Thumbs up 2002 Neon Timing Belt change procedure

.. I've seen some really good information on this site.. but I want to make sure I get all the parts I need .....
So here is my Top 10 List of Questions ...................
1. Where have you guys bought the timing belt kit ??
2. What does it contain and what does it cost ?
3. Is the timing belt tensioner on the 2002 hydraulic or mechanical ? Which one is the better design ??
4. It is worth getting and replacing the tensioner bracket too ?
5. I will probably replace the serpentine belt tensioner while I am in there. Where can you get that part ? Cost ?
6. Does the camshaft pulley have to come off to change the waterpump ?
I saw that in addition to the crank pulley, the camshaft pulley has to come off to change the waterpump.. Is that so ??? I definitely want to change the pump...
7. Motor mounts on this vehicle sound like a problem. This Neon does have a thumping noise from the engine bay when you hit bumps. Which mounts are the problem ones? Right upper? Right lower? Rear? Are they hard to replace ?
8. Does the engine have to be raised to get at some of the fasteners to get to the belt ? How high ?
9. Once the belt is changed does the engine control computer need a value re-set ?
10. What are the big trouble points in this procedure ???

Thanks in advance!!!!!!!

Get parts at local part store; for info look in a manual (Chilton, Haynes).

They are a PITA to do, but doable. You do need a fancy puller for the dampener.

What he says is true. What you buy depends on your application. If you are doing a daily driver buy auto parts store or oem stuff.

thanks for the answers, the reason we use forums is to expand our knowledge of whatever specific task we need to do, but mostly to get opinions based on experience. It is great when a member posts step by step instructions. Therefore omitting the need for a chiltons or haynes of which are sometimes vague in explanations, thus making it somewhat difficult for those of us who are not professional do it yourself mechanics.

many forum members even answer with a link to a previous post on the topic of question. which is of great help when you are in a dilemma and need answers fast.

Regards,

Hobbsao

I too would like these questions answered. The cost of paying someone to fix your car and the cost of purchasing a new or used car is outrages, I would like to be able to keep my 2000 Neon going as long as possible. Please respond if you have the answers, I have 111000 mile on my neon and I think it be wise to change the timing belt. Thanks!
