My wifes Neon had a dead battery the other day so I pulled the battery out and charged it. The car started fine this morning but my wife just called and said her speedometer isn't working. I don't see how removing the battery and charging it would cause this. Anybody have any ideas. BTW I am not a mechanic and don't work on my own cars.

Yes I guess it could be coincidence. Like I stated I'm no mechanic and I thought I may have knocked a wire loose or something when I removed the battery. I checked and didn't see anything. The car is an automatic.

automatic overdrive or 3 speed?

any noticeable shifting problems with the trans when the speedo acts up?

 

Same problem. Just replaced a dead battery today with a brand new battery on a 2003 Neon SRT and now the spedometer does not work. On top of that the car will not shift gears.

Any idea?

 

It's automatic overdrive. I very rarely drive the car but my wife said a while back before the battery problems she thought the car was taking a long time to shift between gears. She said it just happened the other day.

well, you're not giving enough information to determine a course of action.

YOU need to drive the car and tell us everything that's happening...besides the speedo inop. does it shift at all?

Yes my wife has been driving it to and from work everyday. There seems to be no other problem other than the speedometer
