Default 1995 neon problem - oil

my issue is my oil filter keeps popping the seal after being drove . its like there is to much pressure in the filter and popping the seal and oil goes everywhere , this is the 3rd time since i bought the car a few months ago . i was told it could be a oil pressure relief sensor or a bad oil pump , i drove it 80 miles and it did it again . my neon is a 1995 sohc 5 speed non abs highline . i have tightened the filter by hand and by a wrench torqued down very tight and still pops the seal. i use new oil on oil filter seal before putting on and i use one seal not 2 . please help ........ jon ......

This may be a long shot, but have you tried doing a compression check on your cylinders? It is possible that you have a blowback issue increasing pressure inside the motor which indicates other problems.

Also, while it is a PITA, put a real oil pressure guage where the oil pressure sensor is located and see what the actual oil pressure is inside the motor. If it really is too high, then you are looking at tearing it down to find the problem.

The oil pump is driven off the crankshaft, and only something like a blockage or blowback could drive up the oil pressure to a dangerous level, and both of those usually require a teardown to find it.

BTW, I too use the cheap Fram filters and don't have this problem. My car is a 1995 SOHC with a 5 spd. too.

Are you blowing out oil filters? Joe Adams II reported: “I started having an oil pressure problem last month. The oil filter gaskets would blow out after increasing the rpm's a little bit. I tried many different oil
filters and called many repair shops including the dealership. They all told me that the oil pump was bad. [I got a new pump for $80 and when installing it, noticed that] the spring had broken into about 15 pieces causing my oil pressure to build. I replaced the valve, spring, and new cap into my old pump. The plunger, spring, bolt and gasket are $26 from the dealer
(not available from a regular parts shop).”.................THIS SOUNDS LIKE WHAT I HAVE . I BLOW OUT OIL FILTER GASKETS AND WENT THROUGH VARIOUS FILTERS. MY NEON DIDNT COME WITH A OIL PRESSURE OR TEMP GAUGE . I FOUND THIS INFO ON ALLPRO .COM
