Camshaft misaligned
Hi, I need some help. I have a 1998 Dodge Neon 2.0 L 122 CI L4 vin: y-DOHC. The mileage is 78.000. I'm not a mechanic.
I was trying to change the timing belt, and found the camshafts about 7 notches out of position and the crankshaft was cover in oil.
The piston # 1 was in TDC. I moved the crankshaft several times, and I found resistance at some point. The misalignment got worse. I have no clue how can I get the camshafts aligned again? Can someone tell me if some special tool is needed?
Thanks.

are you saying you spun the cam sprockets with the belt removed??
if thats the case the resistance you felt is most likely a valve in contact with a piston (please say you only spun it by hand and not with a wrench??)
Look closely for the TIMING MARKS on the cam sprockets and the crank sprocket, even mark em with some white paint or liquid paper.
when you do get the belt on, remove sparkplugs and rotate the engine 3-5times by the crank bolt with a 1/2"dr. ratchet a few revolutions will make sure there is no interference
should all look like this with Mechanical tensioner http://i51.tinypic.com/2wqr0wl.jpg
Or like this if you have Hydraulic Tensioner http://i53.tinypic.com/33zea1e.jpg
No special tools required other than the 2 on the end of yer arms.
