Default 2001 dodge neon add another lighter port

my son has a factory intact 2001 dodge neon.he has just started delivering pizzas and needs to have a gps unit and the delivery sign plugged in all the time. we got him a splitter to plug both items in to the only lighter socket but he occasionally blows the fuse in the engine compartment. is there a simple solution for us? or is there a spare accessory 12v wire with a fuse position that i can tap into under the dash to add another lighter port? i have on hand a female port with wires on it ready to go,i just need a little guidance on where and what to tap into. i am pretty good and comfortable with electronics and wiring . thank you , paul

Default did it

i removed the two screws holding on the fuse assembly on the side of the dash on the drivers side. i pulled out the assembly, this gave me access to all the fused wires for the various accessories . i chose the fuse which was 20 amp labeled sunroof, which there is none, cut its wire and attached the wire going toward the fuse to my female cigarette socket, grounded the other wire and i was off to the races. the only worry i have is that fuse was mislabeled and supplies voltage to a needed accessory or turn signal, blower, etc etc. i believe it is a yellow wire with an orange splash.

If there was no fuse in the panel at that location you should be ok.

Default there was a fuse

yes there was a 20 amp fuse in that location. i am keeping my fingers crossed. we verified all the interior ,exterior lights ,radio, blower motor, wipers, power locks,...there isnt much else on this car no power windows or mirrors or seat or ac. i just hope those new safety features arent on that fuse , anti lock brakes , air bags ,things of that nature.
