Default Issues with radio flashing

I have a 2002 dodge neon. Recently the radio started turning itself off when the volume was adjusted. The radio will flash from a few minutes up to an hour before coming on. It flashes once pause and then flashes twice very quickly, which I thought was code 12 maybe? But I can't find anything anywhere that says that it means. It's the original radio. The only thing that I have not done yet, is pulled it out to check for wiring issues. Just wondered if it meant something before I pulled it apart.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds like you need a new radio. You can pull it out and make sure the plugs are pluged in all the way. The check engine light flashes for engine codes.

My engine light is already on due to my power steering so if I do the key turn sequence will it still flash the code?

Even if the radio has error codes, it will not show up on the odometer as engine and/or system error codes do for 2nd gen Neons when you do the key dance.

I don't even know if the radios even have error codes, or ways to access any error codes that may occur. but someone on this forum might.
