Jerks/Bucks on hwy
Good'day,
My 96 Neon thinks it's a rodeo horse...
I've had the car about a year. Runs fine, idles fine... however, it has always "bucked" a little doing about 70-80 kph. Accellerating a little more/a little less usually takes care of the problem. I could always drive in the city (<60kph), or on highway (>100 kph)
However, yesterday, on the highway, it really started to buck really bad on the highway doing about 120kph... (I'm sure if you were passing me, you would have seen the car jerking). I slowed to 100kph and it seemed to behave, but trying to accelerate even a little bit more and the problem started again. Needless to say, I deceded to get off the highway and "take the back-roads to work".
Check Engine light came one once last year: said EGR valve was bad. I ignored it and the light hasn't been on since. Could a bad EGR valve do that? I have changed the plugs.
Any guesses?

RE: Jerks/Bucks on hwy
sorry I'm alittle late here, but I just saw this post. I have had a similar problem with my '95. I got the car with this problem and my check engine light is usually on. I added a fuel additive and increased the octane of my gas for a tankfull and this seems to have cured the problem, at least for now!

RE: Jerks/Bucks on hwy
I once read something in Mopar Now about a problem like that. My '97 Neon did the same thing. The article went something like this: That problem with the bucking/shaking is related to how the tires are balanced. Neons (especially first gens) need it to be balanced like it just came off of the sales floor. Most tire places do not know/or have the equipment to do this the right way. I thought that was a joke until i slapped on some Toyos all around and my car was shaking like a mother. I brought it to a Dodge dealership near my house to get it looked at and they propped the car up and re-balanced the tires. Low and behold, it cured it. I was crusing down the highway and it drove smoothly. I hope this helps you out.
