Default valve cover gasket....

I recently found some oil in one of the spark plug tubes. I was gonna replace the gasket under the valve cover, and i was told there are o rings where the spark plug tubes are. i was wondering if anyone has ever heard of different o rings designed for synthetic oil. I have heard that synthetic oil eats away at the o rings eventually cracking them. not sure if this is true or not.... anyone hear of this?
Thanks, Josh

no that is not true there is only one o-ring available but if you are getting oil in the tubes the spark tubes need to be replaced aswell (2.0L engine only 2.4L does not have tubes) you will need tubes and seals and be sure to get bearing and stud sealer from dealer to seal new tubes.

More accurately, the SOHC's spark plug tubes are pressed into the head and held with anaerobic sealer. They seal against the underside of the cylinder-head cover with a rubber bushing/boot. For the DOHC's (only the SRT-4 has a 2.4L, and there are tons of 2.0 DOHC's that have practically identical heads) spark plugs thread into the center of the combustion chamber through wells cast into the head.

If you are getting oil in the spark plug tubes, it's either getting around the sealer (head end) or the rubber boot thingy (valve cover end). It's not really necessary to replace either the tube or the boot. Just make sure it's clean of the old sealant, and use a thin coat of loctite on the head end, and either loctite or a decent gasket sealer on the boot end (seal the boot to the valve cover).

Best of luck!
