Default NEED HELP ABOUT TURBOS!!!

Hey I'm currently finishing up the conversion of my 2004 SXT into an SRT-4, now what I need help with is what turbo kit to put into the car. There's two choices either the Chill Factory Turbo kit or the Hahn Race Craft kit. Both use Mitsubishi Turbos but I'm just wondering if one is better than the other. Please help before this decision makes my FREAKIN' HEAD EXPLODE!!! Thanks Guys.

Its really a personal decision. They are both good kits. I have heard a few more good things about the chill factory, but thats about it.

I believe its about 75-100HP. The site says 100 or more on stock motor.

well glad you are getting boost! you'll love it but just remember, getting turbo is just not getting a turbo. Theres lots you have to do in order for your car to last!

first: find a compatible turbo (which you have found already)

second: More maintnence than you think, HAVE to be exact on oil changes! Since the cars not factory boosted!

third: gotta get extra goodies to make it work, unless it comes springed at 7 psi or something

fourth: need turbo timer, again none factory boosted car. (and not to over boost, meaning blowing that little motor of yours)

fifth: LAST but not least, and the most inportanat thing about non factory boosted cars, TUNE!! If you do not Tune the car, man your turbo and you car will disfunction/bump heads.

Thats where you run into MAJOR problems! EG: blowing motor, ruining head and/block. Make sure it's a well known Tune shop, every Tune shop is gonna say that they are good or just flat REFUSE to Tune you because you weren't refered!
If you are a guy who love to smoke others (which you will, its very like well, TEMPTING). GOOD LUCK on the project. Think about it before you just jump into it! unless you are like RICH then go for it!

Do me a favor and read the posts and know what your talking about before you post. Both the Hahns and Chillfactory kits are BOLT ON KITS, meaning that they will work with a stock motor and need no other parts. They need no tuning unless you start changing things, they are set to run with a stock PCM. The turbo timer is a myth, it is a nice thing to have, but by no means needed. If you have been driving the car hard just before you plan to shut it off, you do need to let it run for a minute or 2, or just drive around the block noramlly. If you have been driving the car normally, there is no need to run the car for more than 15 seconds at idle, and thats a lot. About the only thing you are right about is that the oil changes need to be on time if not a little early, and even with that, your reasoning is wrong. A stock turbo car needs the oil changed just as much as an aftermarket turbo car. The reason being is that the oil gets a lot hotter because it is used to cool the turbo, and no matter how long you run the car after driving hard or how long your turbo timer is set for, you are going to "coke" some oil in the turbo.

As is right now I use Mobil 1 Synthetic in my engine and change the oil BEFORE 3,000 miles. When I buy the kit I'm also doing a bottom end rebuild with lower compression pistons. I've got this planned out I just needed to know which kit was better. Thanks for all your help guys, you all are a vast wealth of knowledge that I think I need to tap into more often, LOL.

Thanks again!

no problem. If you are doing the bottom end and lowering the compression, you can increase the boost and get more HP.

Now you said with a bolt on turbo kit is uses the stock PCM, what would happen if I had the PCM reprogrammed? I know JET has a kit where you send the chip back and they do it, would that be ok or would it screw with the system?

I am not sure, the only choices I have seen is the Mopar or AFX PCMs or a fuel management system. I did not know that JET reprogramed the PCM for the neon. If you find out that they do, please post back here and let me know. What happens with the performance PCMs is they run the fuel curve rich and thats not a good thing with the turbo and a stock motor, BOOM.
