rough idle and running on 3 cylinders help!!!!
i have a 1999 plymouth neon with the 2.0 dohc and i its running on 3 cyclinders. number 3 cylinder isnt working. i checked the spark and the compression on the cylinder. the compression is at like 85 and it has spark. i checked the compression on number 4 cylinder and it was at like 125. so i know the compression is low. i let the car idle in park and checked the injectors by seeing if unplugging them to see if it was a bad injector. as i pulled the other injectors one by one they had an affect on killing the motor. the only one that had no effect on the motor was the number 3 cylinder. idk if that injector is bad or if i have a sticky valve or other valve problem or whatever the problem is i have no idea. i dont work on these motors but i have mechanics knowledge. the car has brand new plugs plug wires and cap. if i can think of more i will add to this please help me and thanks.
Don't know your situation, but it really sounds like you need to start the engine rebuild. 85psi is way below minimum service limit of 100psi. An engine in decent health would be at least 150.
If you have the knowledge (using the Haynes manual helps), the tools, a good time and place to do it, then it really does not cost that much.
You can buy all the parts for less the $350 to rebuild it yourself. Even sending the head off to be reworked should not cost you more then $150 at most machine shops - usually a lot less. So for about $500 and a few good weekends, your car could last you a long time.

Yea I'm gunna have a cousins buddy that's worked on dohc engines tear it down n redo it. The cars just a gas saver for daily driving so it don't need to be a performance car just get better gas mileage n last a while.
Yep. Same boat I am in. I got the car for nothing but the cost to tow it home (blown engine timing belt and some bent valves). 50K + miles later, still laughing all the way past gas stations and banks (for those who make car payments!)
