gas leak
No. The filler neck is a separate component.
The filler neck is attached via a rubber hose from neck to tank, so there is no issue with the metal vs. plastic tank as far as the filler neck part is concerned.

I got a filler neck from the junk yard. As it turns out they mount different the 95 96 mount at the filler door with 4 screws the 98 99 mount with 3 screws there wasnt a 97 on the lot so dont know about that one
Did you hook up the vent pipe? That is what allows the gas to flow quickly. There should be a smaller hose going from a small connector on the side of the pipe to the filler neck top to provide pressure relief while filling your car.
