Default Timing Belt

Hey everyone,
I have a 2001 Chrysler Neon. The timing belt broke while I was driving it, but I only heard a quick sound (most likely water pump seizing/belt breaking) and then the car died. I have replaced both the pump and the belt, have my first piston at TDC, and have all my marks lined up. When I turn the crankshaft with my ratchet it will be easy to turn, and then hard for a moment, and then easy again, and then hard again. Though not much harder, but noticeably harder. Would this be considered too much resistance for me to try and start the car?
Any advice will help! Thanks.

PS. I hope I posted in the right thread for this inquiry.. New member here.

No, but did you ever remove the head and fix the bent valves? 99.9% of the time when the timing belt breaks while these cars are being driven, valves get bent.

No I have been hoping that the engine was safe since the car stopped immediately. I put everything back together and now when I start the car, there is misfiring in cylinder #4. I'm really hoping that it is the spark plug but that is unlikely. I'm going to do a compression test tomorrow. Anything else this could possibly be?

Unless you took something apart and didn't put it back together correctly or messed up a wire, nothing that I can think of right now.
