Rear end whine
I have a 2005 Neon SXT with about 80000 on it. There's a low whine coming from the rear that seems to depend on speed (and not the engine RPMs). I think it's been there since I got the car used a couple years ago. I thought it was just road noise, but more recently I've noticed that it's maybe a bit louder, seems to be coming from the right rear, and goes away when I'm going around a curve to the right. So now I'm thinking it might be a problem that I should look in to. Any ideas?

I would pull the break drum off 1st in inspect for anything loose or leaking. Bad Hub bearings can get noisy. Next the sway bar and bushings, they were hard a rocks on my 00. Struts next, not leaking or any broken hardware.
It turned out to be the right side wheel bearing. I just decided to order one and put it on, and now I'm amazed how quiet the car is. I'd been living with that noise since I bought the car (almost two years ago).
one you got?? The rule of thumb is to replace both left and right wheel bearing..just like if you car need calapers or rooters ..you replace both..because it wont be long before the other side goes..id order my wifes wheels bearing off of ebay for 40.00 shipped thats for both bearing..i buy alot off ebay in parts for our neons witn no troubles..local parts stores are asking to much for there stuff..only in a bind ill get a part form the local parts store..
I thought about that, and it would be a good idea if I had to take the car to the shop or there was some savings of time or work by doing both at the same time, but neither of those apply. If the other one starts to go I'll just spend the hour to replace that one. Also, from what I've read on the net the cheap parts don't last as long, so if I replaced an original hub that was still good with a cheap part, the replacement might not even last as long as the original had left.

Thanks for your response. I did do it myself, and I bought the part online ($30 shipped vs $60 for the cheapest local part). That's why I'm saying that I don't feel I would have saved any work by doing both at the same time. If the other side goes, I'll just order another one and throw it on there. Meanwhile, I'm getting the max life out of the one that's still good.
If you know which brand is good, that would be valuable information for next time (and for other people who might see this). I bought mine from Rock Auto and just chose the least expensive one.

I got a friend that buys alot on rock auto..told me to try them out..didnt like there pricing..still found my stuff on ebay alot cheaper...I dont have money to blow=not that rich...the way the economy is going everybody budget is tight..like said id got both bearing for 39.99 shipped..
That is a good price. I usually don't bother checking ebay because it's hit or miss as far as finding what I need, and I don't know which sellers to trust.
What brand are the ones you got?
