ignition cylinder bracket damaged by thief
What is the name of the part that the ignition cylinder fits into? So my 2004 neon was broken into and they tore the ignition cylinder out... Then they broke the piece that holds the ignition cylinder in place ...
so the other part of my question is: can I buy this bracket by itself .... do I need to purchase a new steering wheel column or do I need to purchase the ignition cylinder in some kind of package that includes the holding mechanism?
I am going to try and fix this myself because if I have someone come out and just fix this small piece it will cost me $500.00. So if somebody can help me I would really appreciate it!

A service manual may help. You can download it free here............

That is no good. You could get a used column for far less than $500. Depending on your model, you could source a new lock cylinder casing from a salvage yard. Is the lock cylinder in your possession still? My original lock cylinder seized up, so it was forced out and replaced. Should be fairly straight forward.
Okay now that I have logged in using my computer I can see the link for the manual.... Great! However this is listing 2000 through 2005 in one book and that makes me rather nervous because they do not have the same steering column.
So we went to a salvage yard and pulled a steering column and then put it on my car... but now the black box has to be replaced... When I say black box I mean the computerized box that sends a signal to a chip in the motor telling it NOT to kill my engine.
While I am no expert I know enough to say that this black box has to have a code that matches my Original key. Replacing the steering column and using a different box and key does no good. Which is why I have always paid to have this fixed.... I say always because this is the 4th time I have had this happen. Unfortunately I can not afford to pay for someone to fix it.
(Side note.... I had a club on it... but I moved to a better neighborhood and thought it was safe... hahaha dreaming there)
I now have the cost down from 500.00 to have someone fix it to
70.00 for steering column
150.00 for new black box (If bought from the mechanic)
125.00 for them to reprogram it
----------------------------------
345.00
and if I want them to come out and do it it will be another 45.00.
So if anyone knows a cheaper way to fix this black box I would really appreciate it if they would let me know.

Get a column and key from a car the does not use the black box (SKIM module) and see if that works. There is a person on big .org that can disable the SKIM to allow any key and lock cylinder to work.
