Default new here/ help

Hi all,
This is my first time here and I have a few questions.
I have a 99 Neon 2.0L sohc with a 3 speed auto. Im very interested in gaining mpg since this is a 70 mile, daily driver. Also Im curious about the gear ratio, and any other information you could offer about this car..
Thanks a bunch

Well first thing keep it maintained well, the more efficiently it burns fuel the better mileage you'll get. Not get on throttle too much of course, but i'm sure you knew that already. What do you think your mpg right now? I average around 28-30 mpg depending on how I drive.

Put a K&N air filter on, and if you don't need it every day, take out the rear seat. Remove all "junk" from your trunk. Also make sure your tire pressure is 1-2 pounds above what it says on the sticker in your car...carmakers like for you to have a soft ride, so they generally put too soft of a pressure recommendation on the car (don't exceed the pressure shown on the tire sidewall, though). Run synthetic oil in your engine and gearbox.

Finally, if you feel brave, draft the car in front of you....[sm=smiley36.gif]

Alot of performance parts will also increase fuel mileage. A good set of spark plugs and a set of MSD Super Conductor plug wires(if they're made for the SOHC), K&N air filter with a short ram or cold air kit and switching to Mobil 1 synthetic motor oil and synthetic transmission fluid, will all help out quite a bit. Next would be a good muffler like Flowmaster, Dynomax, Borla or Mopar Performance and a high flow catalytic converter. A header would also help out. And if your looking for every possible ounce of mileage out of it, then a light weight alumnium crank pulley and cam sprocket will also get more out of every gallon. If this isn't enough, you can also swap out the power steering for the manual rack & pinion that you can get from Mopar Performance or a Neon that already has it thats in a juckyard, it will also remove 70 pounds from the car.[sm=smiley2.gif]
