Dodge NeonThe sport compact car that took the world by storm. the Dodge Neon. Depending on the trim level you get, this sporty ride has something to offer everyone.
has anyone ever had to replace the camshaft seal on the back of their engine.when i got my car the lady i bought it from said that was what was wrong with it.Yet it doesn't leak out the bottom while running or sitting.and the oil level stays the same on the dipstick.
It sounds to me like a crooked mechanic was trying to screw her out of her money by telling her she needed this done and she said "screw it" and sold it instead.
To be honest, I'd be really surprised if that seal was going. Have you seen the design of the block on the 2.0? There's a little girdle type of thing that clamps down on the journals broken at exactly the half way point of the crank just like the old Mopar V-8's (not LA engines) like the original Hemi. This is a dang tough setup. If a 2.0 WAS leaking there, more than likely it was either torn apart and reassembled with out the MOPAR sealer (makes a difference--no gasket there) or the car was hit hard enough to transfer shock through the drive train.
Oops. More in my head than in my letter. The longer block is reminiscent of the old V-8's but the girdle it reminiscent of racing blocks--girdles used in racing.
