Default K&N Filter

I've got a 1998 SOHC, it's an automatic and I was wondering if I'd have Transmission problems, slipping, etc, down the road if I put in a K&N Filter. Not the FIPK. If anyone out there has done it, any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

The K&N air filter doesn't have anything to do with your transmission. All it does is let your vehicle breath alot better, It will gain some HP's and a little more torque but not enough to do any kind of damage to the transmission.

Also to add, you will get better gas mileage as well, as long as you are not lead footing it all the time

I have a K&N filter in my 2001 Dodge Neon, and it's nice, loud, and gives a bit more HP, overall good upgrade and well worth it cuz of better mileage

Thanks for the insight, I know that adding too much power will affect the transmission, and I've been told that Chrysler isn't the greatest with transmissions, especially autos, so I was just checkin. Thanks again, I hope to get one soon, just need to order it!

A K&N air filter won't overpower a transmission, no matter who makes it....but the K&N folks would probably like to hear that!!!![sm=smiley4.gif]

Your tranny will be fine unless your adding around 100 horsepower or more. The Neon's 5-spd trannys modular clutch is very weak and I had quite a bit done to it with out any problems, one of which was the Mopar/Iceman cold air intake with a K&N cone race filter.

I got my filter today and installed. I disconnected my battery so that the car can "learn" how long does it take the car to learn?
