Front Motor Mount
Hello everyone,
I have a 1996 Dodge Neon 2.0l SOHC ATX ...
I noticed that my car was shifting very hard on the way home from work, when I got home (I work only a couple miles from home), I popped the hood and watched the engine while I went from Park to 1st Gear, and then back to Park, and the engine jerked with each gear change.
I have been advised to check the front motor mount and the transmission mount.
The transmission mount was replaced about 10k miles ago, about a week after purchasing the vehicle.
I paid for the mount to be replaced.
Before I take the car back to the shop I would like to check these mounts first.
Could any please direct me to where those mounts might be? And what I should look for to determine if they are bad?
If they are bad would it be possible for a novice mechanic to replace these?
I have some tools to my disposal, as well as 2 hydrolic floor jacks, jack stands, standard and deepwell socket sets, and all the other standard tools... so I would need to know if I need any special tools to do the job.

You can do it yourself by placing one of the hydralic jacks below the motor to hold it in place as you remove the mounts and replace them one at a time, never remove more than one at the same time.
The mounts will have the rubber part torn if the are bad. The Neons, as well as many FWD cars, are known for tearing up their mounts. To prevent this from ever happening again, buy a set of motor mount inserts(usually around $30 for the set). The inserts fit into and fill all of the gaps in the rubber part of the mounts, this eliminates the possibility of the motors movement to tear up the mounts. The only side effect to the inserts is that they will transfer more vibration from the motor through the rest of the car, no biggie.
For their locations, just look around for parts that connect the motor & transmission to the car itself. There is one right up front at the bottom below the radiator. They vary in shape and size a little, but they are quite similar in appearance.
