Quest for a Srt-4 Engine
I am wondering if any one has the faintest idea where i could purchase the new srt-4 engine so that i could drop it into my 1997 neon. Any internet pages or stores in the western U.S. that you know of will help narrow my search.
Thank you.
Thank you.
Hate to say this, but there have been a couple of requests for them here before, and I never heard that they found one. The standard answer was to try a junkyard, but with the limited production #'s of the cars, that may be a waste of time....
Considering the 5.7 Hemi hasn't made to the dealerships as a crate motor and that came out before the SRT-4 engine, I'd have to say no, not yet...

i have a 97 that i was wanting to do the same thing to but the best thing i've seen was to get a 2.4 from a stratus, cirrus, or breeze and turbo it. i dont think there is a crate yet but there will be soon if theirs not.
what year of the stratus, cirrus, or breeze should i be looking for?

why not try www.car-part.com? Search for both 2003 Neon 2.4 engines (I think that's how they're listing it) and 2003 Chrylser PT Cruiser 2.4 Turbo motor. I know that a yard in chula vista CA has been posting two GT Cruiser motors for a LOOONNNNGGG time. Might not still be there.
Others on there (if you search all states) may be willing to ship. I know I've seen complete pullouts for $3000 give or take $500. Perhaps (if you're serious) call them and offer $500 to crate it and ship it fed ex. I bet you'll get a taker.
May be rare, but the engines are showing up. (Too many kids driving 'em--GT Cruiser can't understand why they're wrecking because supposedly it's the 30somethings and older buying Cruisers--but maybe they made more of them than SRT 4??)
It's not hard to find 'em. Just gotta be willing to pay the price.
