i'm curious about all the ghetto ways to make your car faster and or add some hoursepower to that engine. you know the crack head way, like taking the cover off your air filter so that it sounds like you have intake. i know there are others ways out there. I'm just curious to hear what they are and if there really worth the time and ofcourse the ghettoness.

A favorite among many is to use a pipe/bar/stick to punch out the catalyst in the catalytic converter. This will free up quite a few ponies as well as make it louder.

It has nothing but benefits, more horsepower, torque, throttle response and a little cooler running. The only drawback is the need for an O2 simulator for the O2 sensor that goes in or after the cat. Punching out the catalyst will cause the "Check Engine" light to come on, but with an O2 simulator it will not come on. You would need to either disconnect the exhaust from the exhaust manifold and knock a series of holes through it or remove it completely to knock it all out and put it back in. The first method may cause peices of the catalyst to remain loose inside the converter and it may make noise like a rattling. The best solution is to remove the cat completely and replace it with a straight pipe (AKA: a test pipe).

depends on where you live

in illinois as long as you do not have a check engine light and the ECU says everything is Ok, you will pass

It depends on how well they check it. If you have emmissions checks, then just go with a high flow cat. Or have both a cat and a test pipe, run the test pipe until emmissions check time and then swap it out for the cat. Just have an exhaust shop configure it so that you can unbolt or unclamp them and swap them.
