Default 2008 Avenger Trunk Leak

Hi Dodge Mech and all - I've got a 2008 Avenger (company fleet vehicle) that has a leaking trunk - on rainy days, I open the trunk and water literally pours down out of holes in the trunk hatch. You think trunk gasket or headlight seals? I've called the service dept at the local dealer (50 miles away!) and they've "never heard of this problem". Many thanks for any wisdom you can share. This is a new car, and it's a shame that it's soaked and headed for mold city already....

I had the exact problem with my 2000 neon. Water filled up in the spare tire compartment, i had water coming it on the rear floor, but the seats were perfectlly dry.

I ended up removing all the carpet in the trunk, removed the rear seats, removed all upholostry in the rear of the car. Then i took baby powder and put it around all the seals and went to the car wash and have my buddy hose it down while i was inside watching for where the water came in.

I found it to be leaking a little around part of the trunk seal and some small portions of the right rear door seal. Whats nice about this way is everywhere you see baby powder washed away, you know water is getting in there.

Ended up replacing those seals and its been completely dry on the inside ever since! Hope this helps!

Fix the windshield before it starts a mildew problem with your carpet or shorts something out and causes you real headaches. As far as a quick fix you could just caulk the leaking area it won,t be pretty but it will stop the leak at least temporarily and as for the trunk it would be impossible to say without seeing it.I guess you could just sand it and spray some primer on it to slow it down a little.
