Default cutting after market springs to make it lower

last year i purchased some gold line springs for my 98 neon which made my car at a perefectride heigh, but then i upgrades to some 17inch rims and low profile tires, but it raised my car up just a lil bit, and im just a lil bit picky with the heigh of the car, so i was just wondering if it would be okay if i cut the springs just to lower that extra inch or so, i personally dont think it would be too bad if i did, but i would like an other oppenion. i know it will also chance the compression rate on the spring, and will i also have to readjust my struts?

you are probally gonna have to re adjust the struts because the car is going lower, which should give the struts a different angle....is for cutting, you can do it, but the springs are gonna sit on the perch differently, and the struts will be compressed more, so it wont be to good on them....i got gold line springs for my car that came offa a 2002 neon and cut the rear springs so that it evens it out a bit...in order to lower it another inch, then a little more then 1 coil is gonna have to get cut off...

Remember that cutting springs also weakens them so ride quality will suffer.

Cutting springs is a horrible idea. It sacrifices the safety of the suspension. Do some research, I am sure there is something out there to meet your needs. Go to www.modernperformance.com.:)

i cut mine so that i could try to get it as low as i wanted, but its still too high for my liking.....it not so much as i want it to be low, but i wish the tires would tuck up into the fender well more...i dont mind the ride quality either i have the koni adjustable struts on my car and they are always set as stiff as they can be, with my old rims on the car you were able to feel a gum wrapper if you ran it over....but i liked it that way because there is virtually no body roll...but thats just me

if your choices were to cut or heat, then deffinently cut....heating them causes alot more problems then cutting would...i heard that heating them can actually cause some springs to crystalize and then break....cuttting just changes the quality...heating can damage the springs

So you're saying that "upgrading" your wheels and tires moved the car up an inch? And your fix is either cutting or heating aftermarket lowering springs? Keep lowering the car using the springs and you're going to bottom out the struts. The Neon doesn't have much for suspension travel to begin with... Instead of futzing with the springs, why not get tires that are the correct size? 205/40R17's are almost exactly the same height as stock (0.01" shorter).

Best of luck!

yah i got that tire size, the car sits just a lil bit high, not much, it mostly is just the wheel gap i want it where the wheels are almost touching the fenders.

Cutting coils is just a bad idea. You are taking a set that is made to work well and together and when you change that you can end up with unwanted results. If your doing it just for looks and don't care about performance, then knock yourself out, but if your wanting performance you should get another set of springs.
