Race Header question
Hey whats going on...Im a little new to cars but Im looking to a by a pacesetter race header and my buddy was saying i might need some type of O2 cheater or a chip if i delete the cat so the engine light dont go off. Would i need either or, or would it not throw an engine code?
There are 2 O2 sensors, one before the cat and one in or after the cat. You need the O2 sensor that is before the cat, this one tells the PCM the A/F ratio and lets the PCM adjust the air to fuel ratio. If you don't keep it, the PCM will go into limp mode and make the car run full rich making it hard to start when the engine is hot and it will foul out the plugs, as well as making your fuel mileage drop like a rock. The 2nd O2 sensor simply tells the PCM if the catalytic converter is functioning properly or not and if it isn't it will turn the Check Engine light on. If you eliminate the O2 sensor the Check Engine light will come on after a while. Then if something else fails or goes wrong you won't know it because the Check Engine light will already be on. The O2 simulator plugs into the O2 sensors plug and fools the PCM into thinking all is well with it. This way the Check Engine light never comes on. Removing the rear O2 sensor and using a simulator is fine, but you must have the front O2 sensor.
They are made by Casper Electronics and you can get them at Jegs, here is a direct link to the Casper O2 Simulators on Jegs' website: http://www.jegs.com/cgi-bin/ncommerc...28&prmenbr=361
