Exhaust Questions
Hey,
I've been lookin around a lot for exhaust systems to get for my '99 Neon R/T, and I cant seem to find a good dual exhaust (oulet pipes on both sides of the rear). I dont really like the Pacesetter because the yellow looks like crap and I heard it performs poorly as well; and I don't really like the looks of the Vibrant. I want good sound and performance as I hope to get a turbo later, so I looked at flowmaster mufflers but there's only one that has the following arrangement necessary for dual exhaust neons (95-99 at least): =[ ]- , the 80 series, which I think is the loudest-musle-car-muffler they have. Would this sound rediculous on my car or are there any better options?
Also, I thought about buying piping with a 50- series that would go around the back of a muffler set up with the two outlets on the right: -[ ]= , and then underneath on the left side (while the other simply curves to come out the rear right) to make a dual exhaust. Or would this not function/sound properly or balanced because of the length of one pipe?
Thanks for the input in advance.

Hey, that was my idea 3 years ago.
I was going to get the 80 series to make it a dual outlet like the newer R/T's and SRT-4's, they even have the perfect polished stainless steel pipes that I was going to use for the outlets/tips. I had never heard Flowmasters on a 4 cylinder before though, so I kept the Mopar Performance exhaust on it.

A couple Q's--
Does the Mopar Performance exhaust come stock on the '99 R/T? Does anyone know what the 80-series is/would be like on the neon or is there any way I can use another muffler to make a dual exhaust?
Also, if none of these options work, has anybody experienced/heard anything about the Thermal R&D exhaust? or is it not any different than the stock one? (since I noticed that Flowmaster doesn't sell dual tips)

Nyah ha ha. You guys wanna hear what an 80 series sounds like? I gots one. Nyah ha ha.
BTW--originally I left it completely open 2.5 on both sides. Then I had another shop move the muffler up behind bumper to hide it and swing out two pipe below with tips. Had him shrink to 2 or 2.25 inch. This quieted it down a bit, but whoa ho ho! It's gotta be the loudest they offer. By a ton.
If you want, before you decide, I can record the sound and I may be able to get a picture. But I only have 35 MM camera myself so you may have to wait for a bit.
It's loud enough that I bought a resonator to put on. Haven't done it yet.

It would be tough. Have you seen underneath? You could split and wrap one all the way to the other side.
BTW--I have a 70 Series Big Block on my Suburban (quieter by far) and a 40 Series with Deltaflow on my Jimmy---very very nice.
If it were me, I'd buy a 40 or 50 with Deltaflow and be happy with one outlet, or I'd order the 2002 RT Dodge muffler. Problem is dealer quoted me somemthing like $350 when I went looking (and before the 80 series). I tried to get a shop to put a 50 Deltaflow infront of my 80 but there just isn't enough room anywhere else on the car.
So. . . do you want to hear the 80 just for kicks? It's pretty neat sounding if you like loud. I twist and turn my opinion everyday. Some days I love it reverberating off the canyon walls on the way home. Other days I think, I'm too dang old for this.

I don't know much about buying mufflers or exhausts since I haven't before, but I'm thinking about buying the 50 series. Therefore, I have to buy pipes that come out of the outlets and tips then right?
yup. If you're doing that I'd just select a shop and have them weld it on. But it's not too tough if you want to try with clamps and don't have a welder. You'll need to clamp on after last 90 degree, clamp on another 90 afterwards and aim it down and out. Clamp on a tip if you want. Need a hanger, probably. Could clamp that on too. My experience has been trying to piece together a bunch of parts like that for $1.50 to $8.00 a piece adds up pretty quick. It's easier to give your muffler shop 50 or 60$ to weld it on and put on a nice tip. They can bend pipe and usually get it aimed out the back straighter.
Working on that video clip for you. As far as I've ever seen no one's recorded their 80 on a 2.0 Neon here or on neons.org. Maybe they're embarrassed how silly it sounds??
