The gist is you should be getting 1) 12 volts on the dr grn/org wire at the generator with the ignition switch in the "on" position (ASD relay energized) and 2) no less then 1,000 ohms between the dk grn wire at the generator and ground when the wire has been disconnected from both the generator and the PCM.
If it's not a short or open on one of these two circuits, it may be interal to the PCM since the electronics that cycle the field are actually part of that module
. Here's hoping you get lucky like we did. The battery light on our '96 was being turned on by a code 47 problem. Appears it was due to raised resistance between the post and cable clamps from corrosion that was not visible on the top/outside of the terminal connections. Solved with a simple cleaning of the battery posts and terminal clamps.
Your best solution is to purchase a volt gauge and install it so that you know what is really going on with it. The cheapest and easiest route is to get a plug in volt gauge, provided that your power socket/lighter socket works, it is $42.99 at Jegs and it is the Cyberdyne plug-in voltmeter #280-A003E060N. It just plugs in and your done, it has a bright red digital read out. If you want the best looking and most reliable gauge possible, you can get an Auto Meter voltmeter gauge for around the same price if not cheaper. With the Auto Meter you have tons of options as to size, face, color, mounting, etc. and they are very simple to install as well.[sm=smiley2.gif]
