i heard a lot of voice about the weakness of 00' neon.

the serious one is the tranny. can anybody tell me how long will the tranny last? and how to maintain it?

i really dun want to purchase a neon and then spend couple thousand to rebuild the tranny.

 

I've never heard anything bad about the tranny. Mine is holding up.
My clutch cable on the AC messed up and the shifter cable messed up once but that's about it.

coz my mechanic friend also told me the tranny is the old problem for all dodge's car. execpt SRT series.

but if it's minority problem. then it's fine! and it's great!

 

The only "problems" i'm aware of on DCx cars from 2000+ are with the electronic controlled automatic transmissions, hell, even the new trannies on the LX vehicles had some issues when they first came out, but were soon fixed. I cant see you having any real problems with buying this car, I mean, it will have some of those little things associated with a first year re-designed model, but nothing major that should sway you from buying it...besides a massive aftermarket world awaits you...just ask lblackneon how he's doing with his little 00' buildup...

 

The 00 neon did have transmissions problems and i own a 00 sxt and i had to replace the tranny at 63000 miles because i had shifted an auto and that led to problems ...so dont try to shift an auto and if u have a manual u wont have to worry about it ..........and DO NOT do neutral drops into drive....it will mess ur transmission up.....i learned my lesson and it cost me 2500 dollars.........other than that it is a very reliable car even though i beat the crap out of it....love it.....good luck
