how many miles on your neon before you started having mechanical problems
my car now has 116k.i bought the car in june at 115k it needed a crank sensor by then. also it needed a coolant sensor and spark plugs and wires .
my first neon needed a tranny at about 10k. other than that no major issues with any of my others, one which i had up to about 80k
not really miles but once the car hits a certain age your gonna have electrical problems out the ***. Be warned if you have a 95 or 96 if you havent already your electrcial issues are around the corner.
i have a 96 .my sister has a 95 .when her car was being inspected the back lights were going on and off. and sometimes her dome lights does the same. but so far it seem to have corrected itself .my mother has a 96 and at 70 k the brake lights stopped working. on my car, what i thought was a electrical problem turned out to be the crank sensor
both of ours are 95's... and my sisters (Dodge) began to get problems around 150,000...but its begun to get better at 205,000... we also had electrical problems from day one with the blinkers lol...but those ended up going away... on my Neon (95 Plymouth) with 238,000 still has yet to give me any problems...
Zony. I wouldn't consider any of that mechanical. IMO that's maintanance.
At about 60k miles I needed a new shifting cable; my car wouldn't go in reverse so I had to push it back. I was doing a Scooby Doo and when I had to I would push it[&:]. A little later than that, I needed to replace my clutch cable for my AC. I'm getting my power steering pump replaced now b/c it's broken and the car is around 82k. That's about it on me.

My 99 DOHC Sprt ATX, bought new off the lot, has 92,000 miles on it with no mechanical problems whatsoever. All that was done was routine maintenance. Great car and now my bro-in-law in enjoying it.

My '99 R/T had just 1900 miles on it when the clutch "exploded", 9k when the pcm took a dump, 12k when the sunroof crapped the first time,15k when the pcm died again, 22k when the fuel pump died,33k when the sunroof died the second time,35k saw an a/c condenserand compressor. Now with 45k on it and it seems to be holding up just fine....
Both of my 96 & 99 neons had head gaskets at 60000 miles. the 99 had the rear main seal pop out & put a groove in the flex plate. it just had a new alt & power steering pump put on. The pully puller would not fit on the pully for the power steering pump. had to get new pully. The 96 has had many elet proplems but I fix it & it keeps going. My 05 is still good. proplems (stuff that happens when it get old) for me started at 60000
