Damn this thing has some tall gears. How many gears do I use in the quarter mile, 3. Never can get 3rd up high enough to shift to 4th in the quarter. I've tried both, and only going to 3rd provides quickers time, no surprise there really. But really surprised me was when the neon up to 117 last night, and I was still in 4th gear. I didn't even hit 5th, I did drop into 5th once I let off the accelerator. It was spinnin around 4000 rpm (I think, I was more concerned at watching the road than my tach) at that speed so it had plenty left.

 

I hear you my 98 is too high also, in my opinion. 60 in second and I belive around 85 in 3rd. on neons.org its said to do 120 in 4th and thats right at the speed gov. (but i guess its a econo car not a drag racer

 

Mine will go to 65 in 2nd gear, and I think I can hit about 95 or 100 with 3rd (whenever I'm going that fast I play it by ear and feel, not by looking at tach, I'm watching road not guages so much.), and 4th will go to 120 I'm sure, I just dropped to 5th and let off gas to slow me down. But yeah, this thing is geared for fuel economy not racing. Just wait til I give the engine some extra ooomph! This shiz will be fast. There is quite the battle going on over at neons.org as to which tranny is faster, the 3.55 which I have or the 3.94 which is in the R/T. I still don't think anyone has really proved which is faster.

 

You think thats tall my 5spd altima does 70mph in second gear and the auto does 72 in second. At the track the auto is has shifted into third a little before the line. (16.707 at 82 mph, .5 faster et then stock). The 5spd I am not sure what it does at the track yet I was supposed to be racing today along with my friend and his neon but it decided to rain .
