1995 Neon speedometer and odometer problems...help!
Hi everyone...I am new here and have a problem with my 1995 neon highline i am hoping you all can help me with...About 4 or 5 months ago our guages stopped working for a short period of time...The next day I started the car and they all worked again.Since then, there were times that they would work and times they would not.All of the gauges, the speedometer, gas, tempature, and also seems the odometer don't want to seem to work now at all.We use to have to hit the dash to get them to work at times before,I try this now and get nothing. Can someone please give me and my wife some advice on what it could be? this is the only problem that we have had with this car so far.Any help would be greatly appreciated....Thanks!

One change I recommend is to have a small package of ROSIN core solder available when you do the job. You can find it at a hardware store or Radio Shack. If a cold joint doesn't seem to reflow or adhere well, adding a small amount of new solder can help. DO NOT let any acid core solder used in plumbing applications anywhere near the circuit board.
Usually better and cheaper to repair the current one over picking up a replacement at the salvage yard. I pulled two from scrap cars and they both had the same defect - it's increasingly likely to surface as a problem as the gauge cluster ages on the early cars.

I have seen used gauges on ebay, both with and without tach for $30-$40. Usually they have low miles on them. Might be a way to go if you don't wanna screw with the board.
Well...Me and my wife appreciate the responses to our problem.I did fix it,Thanks for the advice b_s_b....I went ahead and took it apart and re-did the solder ends on the pins and all is good now.Everything works great, including the odometer. So if anyone is having this problem, always mention this is the way to go.It was very easy to do,only took 10 minutes and I was on the road again....Thanks again for the help!
