Neon anyone...
205hp out of a neon...not bad...check this one out...dont worry its real..the car has been totaled though after getting rearended by a civic...he is working on putting the motor into a 98 neon right now...
My 99 Neon R/T has the following:Mopar Performance computer, Mopar Performance cold-air induction w/K&N cone race filter, Mopar Performance chrome header, Mopar Performance cat-back exhaust, Mopar Performance Motor mounts w/Rex inserts, Mopar Performance bobble strut, MSD Blaster ignition coil, MSD 8.5mm Super Conductor wires, APC strut tower brace and Bridgestone Potenza RE-950 tires. I use Mobil 1 synthetic motor oil. My future mods include the Indy Intake manifold, Indy CNC ported head, bigger bore throttle body, larger injectors and fuel rail, Crane cams, rear strut tower brace, Unorthodox racing light weight crank pulley and cam gears, Moroso aluminum oil pan, Koni adjustables, Catco high flow catalytic converter, 17" Tenzo R Passion 5 wheels and Goodyear Eagle F1 GS D3 tires. After all is said and done it should be 250+ hp normally aspirated. Right now it's a little under 200 hp.
i have a 2004 srt 4 neon that i bought from my dealership.it comes straight from the factory with 230 horsepower and 265 torque. it has viper style seats and is a light car. if anyone is interested in purchasing a neon srt4, i have 3 left on the lot. a black, yellow and electric blue one..i am located in south florida.
My R/T is in the 175-185 range. The 2.0L DOHC was supose to be 175+ hp, but the deal with mitsubishi was a motor that wouldn't need a new timing belt until 100K miles. So they had to neuter the cam and valve train combo. It also had to be used in auto equipped cars.
Absolutely bizarre... Funny stuff though!
Gross misconceptions... Mitsubishi didn't design or build the motor, Dodge did. Mitsubishi designed their own DOHC head and only got 140 HP, where the Dodge/Lamborghini designed head got 150 HP, so whatever Mitsubishi wanted from the valvetrain didn't mean diddly. The DOHC was most frequently used on 2-door ACR's and all R/T's, both of which were 5-speed only. When mated with the auto tranny, the DOHC was the slowest of the bunch, including SOHC ATX's... Timing belt interval was, and still is, 105k miles on all Neons.
I can think of a half dozen non-SRT-4 guys (and gals) putting out over 500 HP now just off the top of my head. Even back when this thread was started, there were at least that many making over 350 HP. And, like mentioned above, the Neon isn't really an import... At least not any more than my Ram is that was assembled in Mexico...
Great stuff!

The main thing you people are forgetting is that this is import racing, there fore, the amount of horsepower is not really that big.
Great stuff!
