Stock they are not that fast, the stick is better than the auto for stock accelleration. there are a lot of aftermarket parts available. If you have the money and wanna put it in the car you can get 400 hp out of the car.

If you look at the honda SI it has more horse power with 160 HP's where like the neon SXT had 133 Hp's, and the SI has 132 ft/lbs of torque and the neon has 130 ft/lbs of torque and also consider the honda weighs 100 lbs more. so off the line you should keep up it is when you get more towards the top end the honda will kill ya. But with a few mods like an exhaust and CAI to add a few ponies just for now can get you going nicely.

But here is the best part if you don't have alot of money to spend. Hondo msrp is close to $20,000 and the neon SXT is $15,000, with the rebate $12,000 and if you lived in L.A. cali area they always have sales on all the sxt's for $10,000. and it isn't just a cou[ple of them like all the others do, it is all of them.

my buddy went into the dodge dealer up here in WA, and asked to take a look at the neon srt-4. the salesman was real quick to correct him saying that it's not just a beefed up version of the nean, that it's a completely independant car.[sm=smiley29.gif] anybody else think they're being kinda silly about that?

Sure they are not EXACTLY the same, but that doesn't mean that they are completely different. The shell is a Neon. The dash is a Neon. The list can go on and on. People will continue to argue, and I'm sure get pissed at me, but it's the bigger, badder brother of the Neon. It's about time the Neon had the brother to stick up for it, don't you think?

It depends, are you thinking of getting a new Neon or a used Neon and if it's a used one what year? The '98-'99 Neon R/T's were good for 15.9 in the 1/4 mile and for a normally aspirated 4 cylinder that gets 35+ MPG that's damn good. My '99 R/T had Mopar Performance (MP) CAI, MP chrome header, MP PCM, MP stiffer motor mounts and bobble strut, Rex motor mount inserts, MP exhaust, MSD ignition coil, MSD Super Conductor plug wires and APC front strut tower brace and it still got 35 MPG and would be good for 14's. I'm not terribly familiar with the newer Neons except the SRT-4 and it's good for 13.9 in the 1/4 mile.[sm=smiley2.gif]

In my opinion:

If you want to buy a car for looks and good gas milage on the street, Neons are cool.

If you want to go fast, pick up a used LS1 Camaro and put some exhaust and super charge it. Youll have all the TQ and HP you want.

Or for the money he would invest in the supercharger for the ls1 he could buy a turbo kit for a neon and run in the 13's once he learned how to drive it. Then turn around and still get 30 mpg on a daily basis (if he can keep his foot out of it) Not to mention the insurance is going to be a hell of a lot cheaper on the neon.
